Naevus Global Representatives Conference
June 15-16, 2024. Paris
On June 15 and 16, 2024, Marjolein van Kessel (Nevus Netwerk Nederland), together with Whitney Casal (Nevus Outreach, USA), Benjamin Löffler (Nävus Netzwerk Deutschland) and Inbal Engler (Children of Light, Israel), organized a meeting for Naevus Global to exchange experiences and develop a new vision and mission for Naevus Global.
Twenty patient representatives and advocates came together in Paris from different countries: the Netherlands, China, Greece, Czech Republic, Slovakia, United States, Spain, South Africa, Germany, United Kingdom, Israel and France.
Meeting’s summary
On Saturday, the focus was primarily on sharing existing activities and updates on research from different countries. On Sunday, the attention shifted to developing a plan for the added value of international collaboration. This meeting was prepared under the leadership of Kathy Redmond (consultant).
The contact with Kathy Redmond was established through Global Skin. She has guided various organizations, such as Global Skin, the Coalition for Rare Skin Diseases (RareDerm), and other international skin organizations, with her knowledge and experience. Her input was also very valuable to us.
These two days would not have been possible without the support of the Global Skin Impact Fund, which enabled patient representatives without financial means to attend. Beatrice de Reviers provided a meeting room in Paris. Nevus Netwerk Nederland made a financial contribution that covered the lunches.
CMN awareness day
It has been decided to declare September 28th as International CMN Awareness Day. Long ago, on September 18th, 2013, the first International CMN Expert Meeting started in Marseille. A temporary social media group will design the first international campaign for September 18th, 2024. The group includes representatives from the USA, Germany, and Slovakia.
Follow up steps
During this meeting, the vision and mission were established. A temporary steering committee was formed, consisting of Marjolein van Kessel (NNN), Whitney Casal (Nevus Outreach, USA), Benjamin Löffler (Nävus Netzwerk Deutschland), Inbal Engler (Children of Light, Israel), and Sieglinde McKeown (Nevus Association South Africa) to further develop plans under the leadership of Kathy Redmond. This steering committee will present a strategic plan for the period 2025-2030.
Expressions of Gratitude
We are pleased to report the successful completion of our weekend meeting, which was made possible through the invaluable contributions of several key individuals and organizations. Their support and dedication ensured the event’s success, and we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the following:
- Kathy Redmond: We sincerely thank Kathy Redmond for her exceptional assistance in conducting the strategy meeting. Her expertise and guidance were instrumental in driving productive discussions and shaping the direction of our future initiatives.
- CPA: Our deepest appreciation goes to CPA for generously offering their venue in Paris. Their willingness to host our meeting during the weekend following the World Congress of Rare Skin Diseases (WCRSD) provided us with an ideal environment to engage in meaningful conversations and plan our next steps.
- The Impact Fund: We are incredibly grateful to The Impact Fund, whose grant was crucial in covering the costs associated with hosting this event. Their financial support allowed us to focus on our mission without the burden of logistical challenges.
- Dr. Beatrice de Reviers: Last but certainly not least, we extend our warmest thanks to Dr. Beatrice de Reviers for organizing and providing an excellent dinner. All attendees greatly appreciated her attention to detail and dedication to ensuring a memorable dining experience.
Without the collective efforts of these individuals and organizations, this meeting would not have been possible. We are thankful for their contributions and look forward to continuing our work together.
